Ian McDonald is one of the British Isles' most varied writers. All of his books are very different, he isn't an author of whom you can say "he writes *this* kind of fiction".

For those of you who have not used Live Journal it is essentially a space for chat and discussion. However, in the science fiction community it has become one of the favoured spaces for talking about writing.

One of the things you can do with your livejournal account is to create a personalised "newspaper" of people whose writing you like to read. You do this by
1. going to their pages.
2. Click on user info.
3. Click on the little picture of a head with a plus on it. This will ask you if you want to friend this person. Click Yes.
4. On your own page you'll see a link to "friends". If you click on that you can see who has posted what each day. Keep adding people as you see folks who make interesting comments.
